In the wake of the 30th anniversary of Turkish occupation in Cyprus, Panayiotis hopes to use the opportunity of OIYP2004 “ to make a positive social change by striving to unify a country divided by oppression”.

Despite living in the UK, Panayiotis campaigns with the Syllos Association and is working towards the liberation of Cyprus and the increased awareness amongst younger members of the Cypriot community of their heritage. As an elected student representative at university, Panayiotis provides a vocal stance on behalf of his peers and works together with senior university personnel to achieve changes reflecting the majority of student feelings. Access to and the cost of tertiary education are current issues being tackled.

Of OIYP2004, he says “I hope to gain knowledge that will develop my skills as an activist by drawing upon the experiences of others”.
