Mkondana Chimbalu

Mkondana Chimbalu from Malawi attended IYP2004 and has been involved in the promotion of basic education in rural areas since then. She helped initialize Youth Empowerment and Basic Education (YEBE), which educates parents on the importance of a good basic education for their children, before engaging the children of the community. Working with YEBE, the Ministry of Education and the Centre for Youth and Children’s Affairs (CYCA), Mkondana plans to expand her work to different rural areas to work with parents, elders and chiefs, and spread the belief in the importance of education for the young.

Mkondana “hopes her dream will come true with the help from Oxfam” as she wants to encourage more young people to participate in the promotion of basic education in rural areas.
