Girly Bagus
Education - Philippines(Manila) - (East Asia)
Girly’s community is located in Manila, the capital of the Philippines. It is one of the urban poor areas in the city and most of the people live from vending. Families usually consist of 4 to 10 children and are living together with other families in one house. Children spend most of their time in the streets looking for ways to earn money to help their parents. They forget about studying and become street children.
”My family became a street family and we used to live in a pushcart and later on became residents of Bahay Tuluyan. My siblings and me were able to go to formal school through the help of Bahay Tuluyan, a non-government organization that helps street children.”
With the support of her organization Bahaz Tuluyan, Girly wants to build a learning center in her community that will provide formal and non-formal education. It will help young people to maintain their study habits and to learn about their rights and responsibilities.
