Peter Otim

Peter Otim from Uganda attended OIYP2004, and has been working with various regional, national and international organizations assisting IDP’s (Internally Displace Persons). The organization Peter has spent the most time with is the Uganda Young Christian Community Development Agency, a group that strives to build peace and conflict resolution. Over the last year, Peter has been coordinating projects to train IDP’s, particularly single mothers, in life skills and IGA’s, or Income Generating Activities.
Peter’s work in Northern Uganda with female heads of household in urban camps aims to empower this traditionally disadvantaged group in an attempt to minimize trauma impact, as well as reducing over-dependency on humanitarian agencies by educating on the values of sustainable livelihoods. Peter’s work also aims reduce the prevalence of situations such as gender-based violence, discrimination and prostitution.
