Donnasian Lugakiza Ishenda
HIV / AIDS - Tanzania (Central and East Africa)
Since IYP 2004, Donnasian and other two Tanzanian delegates of IYP have visited almost all over Tanzania gathering ideas and networking with other youths from the regions in Tanzania mainland and islands with the aim of forming and establishing Tanzanian Youth Parliament. The trips were successful and arranged different meetings with youths of Dar-Es-Salaam and made a Constitution of it.
In February 2005, they had a stakeholder’s workshop at UNICEF and members of the government were invited. At the workshop the government suggested they use the word Network instead of the Parliament. All the stakeholders agreed with the suggestion, they made further follow-ups with the process of registering it. It wasn’t an easy task to register it; it took Donnasian and his group years (since the formation of the Parliament). The Network was registered 10th May 2006 and Donnasian was elected to be a Vice Chairperson of Tanzanian Youth Network.
Apart from TYN, Donnasian successfully implemented his Action Plan which he came up with at the IYP. The project is called “Peer to Peer Education through Creating HIV / AIDS Clubs to Secondary Schools in rural areas”. Donnasian, with the collaboration of Aiding Youth for Life’s peer educators, worked in a very rural areas in three different regions. They provided vaccine education on HIV / AIDS and raised awareness among students. He has also been working with different youth organizations and networking so as to bring social changes in his community.
Recently Donnasian joined the Institute of Finance Management and is now completing an Advance Diploma in Accountancy. His college is situated in Dar-Es-Salaam, and the course itself takes three years.
