Mundanara Lowana Bayles

Indigenous Rights  - Education - Australia

Mundanara is committed to breaking down the barriers Indigenous people commonly face when accessing employment.  After witnessing the success of the “NOISE project,” which gave youth from the Brisbane Youth Detention Centre the opportunity to express themselves through music, Mundanara saw the capacity of youth to make positive change and realised her own passion for working with them.

As a school employment consultant and a business development/Indigenous employment consultant, Mundanara initiates traineeships or apprenticeships with school-students.  These help indigenous youth to make the transition from school to productive employment.  “We need these young people to be able to take their place in society and become tomorrow’s leaders in the Indigenous community.”

Mundanara plans to extend her program, targeting schools with higher Indigenous student populations. She says this will ensure that more qualified Indigenous youth are out in the workforce.
