TASTE 2006 - A TASTE FOR CHANGE

TASTE - Tuesday April 4, 2006

 This years OIYP gala dinner was bigger and better than ever!

TASTE 2006 was held at Sydney's gorgeous Shangri-La on Tuesday April 4, to a sold out crowd of 450 people.

Sydney's top chefs donated their time, produce and expertise once again for a 6 course dinner extravaganza. 

The Menu Consisted of...

First Entree
Salt-cured topside of Mandagery Creeky venison with
celeriac remoulade, truffled cream vinaigrette and pomme allumette
by Mathew Kemp (Balzac)

Wine: Framingham Marlborough Pinot Noir 2004
Beer: Montheith's Celtic Red Beer

Pea soup (the hit of the evening)
made by John Tufegdzic, Altitude, Dietmar Sawyere's recipe
(last minute replacement dish when Peter Van Es, of Rydges Jamison, had to unfortunately cancel. He was otherwise due to create an amuse bouche of tomato jelly with roasted beetroot, horseradish foam and parmesan biscuit)

Dessert
Goats curd cheesecake with organic blueberries

Entertainment

What’s more, the evening included a sophisticated line-up of entertainment including Jazzgroove performers, Euro-gypsy Jazz fusion by NADYA's 101 Candles and the delights of Rai Thistlethwayte and Phil Stack of Thirsty Merc. Click here for more information on these peformers.

In addition, guests heard from Sri Lankan OIYP action partner; Guruparan Kumaravadivel describe his personal experiences of creating the Sri Lankan Youth Parliment in the months following the Indian Ocean Tsunami with the support of OIYP.

Guests purchased exciting auctioned items and mystery prizes from professional auctioneer; Andrew Shapiro of Shapiro Auctioneers.

Overall

Thanks to the donation of the venue, staff time, food, wine and entertainment, $70,000 was raised from the event  with this money directly funding the Oxfam International Youth Parliament’s projects.
